Born in 1952 in Saboti Mt Elgon, Trans Nzoia County
They were later repatriated back to their ancestry home in Gatundu, Kiambu County
Njoroge later moved from Gatundu to Mathare slums where he learnt various trades including playing a guitar.
In 1971, he recorded his debut vinyl Giconoko alongside Peter Mwangi
Since then, he recorded 33 more tracks which were not as popular at their debut dates, but he would get into 1979 elections campaign trail endorsing Ngegi Muigai
In 1986,Dickie Njoroge recorded ‘Munyonyi’ which was remastered and produced by Joseph Kamaru from its original version, the track was a hit song which finally put Dickie on the showbiz limelight earning him the name Dickie Njoroge Munyonyi
It was on this same period Munyonyi lost his voice rendering him unable to perform his songs live on stage
Being multi talented, Dickie henceforth engaged as a solo guitarist and would feature in many Kikuyu oldies hit songs including; Gathoni by Joseph Kamaru Cai wa 14 by Musaimo, Mwendwa Lucy, Wiyathi and Gicambanio by Gitonga Wa Gathuma
Dickie Njoroge made a comeback into the limelight when the former President Uhuru Kenyatta spotted and had a chitchat with him at Gatundu and later when one of his track ‘Firirinda’ made a rejuvenation and became a sensational hit song across the country in 2021…
